Langston Hughes: “Harlem: A Dream Deferred”

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

Responses

  1. no it melts like ice and becomes liquid..i.e. becomes sth else…u forget the original dream :(

  2. I think we never forget the original dream ya Ghandi. It lingers there at the back of our minds to remind us of what we could not achieve/get… which is even harder.
